Contest Rules 2019

The Competition is open to any underwater photographers, and it is free theme. The Contest includes the following categories: 

Wide Angle (WA): the color or B/W image will represent the underwater environment or the species that inhabit it through the use of optical or extra wide angle. Long shots and backlight are allowed; the human presence can be included in the image as a complementary element. The photographer is free to interpret the theme according to his taste by using any type of compositional technique. Midwater images are also admitted, as long as the underwater area is not less than the 50% of the whole photo.

Macro: the color or B/W image will shoot entire aquatic subjects or subjects or underwater life details, highlighting the best aesthetic taste through composition choices and colors. The images must be made only with macro optics, excluding the use of fisheye lenses for close-up macro. Any kind of technique is allowed, as long as the main subject of the image represents the theme. 

Class theme: “..and as a background..the blackness”: in photography, to focus the observer’s attention on a single subject, a detail or a scene, is a technique called “Low Key”. The color or B/W image, taken by wide angle or macro lenses, has to represent a subject, a detail or a scena on a completely black background. Double exposures are not allowed. Images submitted to this category, or those who belong to the same set of a sequential photoshoot, can not be submitted in other categories. On the contrary, different images, even if they are taken by the same technique, can be submitted in other contest categories.

Portfolio Mediterraneo: one or two series of three underwater color or B/W images, which enhance Mediterranean Sea typical environments and fauna. Each portfolio shall be composed of: a Macro, a WA and a personal choice. Macro or WA images similar to those already presented in previous sections are not allowed (see ref. Art 1). Authors who send two series have to specity the portfolio to which each picture belong using a title or another characterisation from allowed by the regulation. 

Storyboard: combination of different pictures to tell a story. The issue is free and needs to be developed with 5 images. Consecutive photos are not necessary and it is possible to use pictures took in different periods, creating a story. The sequence may includes 2 non underwater photos maximum. There is no limit of post-production for this category, and these photos can not be presented in other categories of this contest. The sequence of images must be titled and numbered from 1 to 5, for a proprer view. The photos have to be named as follows: number (01, 02, 03 etc) sb_namesurname (01_sb_tomwhite). The organisers will change the name of the pictures in order not to be recognized from the jury.

The storyboard must include a short text describing the topic. The jury could use the text ,if necessary.

All images already rewarded in other national and international contests within Dec 31st 2018, will be excluded.

The jury is meeting in Ortona for the evaluation of the images on 09/10 November 2019.

 

 PRESENTATION FILES TO THE COMPETITION 

Art. 1)  Authors may submit a maximum of 2 files for each section, 2 series for the portfolio Mediterraneo and 1 series for the Storyboard. The same picture can not be presented in several sections. To enter the contest you will need to connect from  01/09/2019 to 06/11/2019 on the official competition site www.ortonamare.org and to access the section dedicated to enrolment picture. It is hereby specified that no extension will be granted for the sending date of the images

In order to send your works you will need to register on the site www.ortonamare.org and give your consent to the processing of data. Once registered, you will have to login. Logged into the site, select the icon  “photo inscription " and start the upload of your works following the instructions. 

Please notice that any work:

  • must be in JPG format (only format accepted); 
  • must not exceed 5Mb weight;
  • must have the following dimensions 30x40 or 30x45 at 200 dpi;
  • must have a title (it must contain only alphanumeric characters; the use of apostrophes, commas, brackets etc,.is not allowed. It can not include any mention of author’s name or acronym);
  • images don’t have been rewarded in other national and international contests within the Dec 31st 2018;
  • similar images or pictures that are part of the same sequence already rewarded in other national and international contests within the Dec 31st 2018, are not allowed;
  • All images must include EXIF data according to their specific categories. Any mention of the author has to be removed. EXIF data will not be accessible to the Jurors throughout the session, but only to the organization, if nedeed. 

The jury, in the event of dispute and contingencies where it sees fit, reserves the right to ask the author the original raw files or jpg file that contains all the Exif data for further feedback. 

Art. 2) Concerning digital images, it is allowed:

  • to crop a maximum of  20% of the original image;
  • a limited use of the Clone Stamp to clean them from any tiny defects; 
  • to make small variations in brightness, contrast, color temperature, sharpness and saturation;
  • to use multiple exposures, only if permitted by the camera’s features and as long as the RAW file is previously created.

Photomontages or overlapping images are not allowed.

Images can not have frames, pass-partout, watermark or any logo or signature that can identify the photographer. 

Underwater images taken through submerged portholes, aquariums or pools are not allowed, except for the Storyboard category.

Images that show damaged seabeds, frightened animals, stressed or unnatural situations are not allowed, except if the picture is intended to document or report bad human manifestations. 

The organization and the Jury will check the images in order to exclude the ones that do not correspond to the requirements of the Art. 2.

The RAW file will be mandatorily required for all classified images.

The jury's judgment is irrevocable. It will be based on the technical, naturalistic, artistic and documentary features of the images. Images with important technical and artistic deficiencies, even if with a high naturalistic content, could receive a negative judgment.

Art. 3) 

To cover expenses, it is required a registration fee of:

€ 20.00 for the registration to one category 

€ 30.00 for the registration to multiple categories. 

Payment can be made by "Paypal", once you upload your works in the site.

Art. 4) 

Monitors used to evaluate the images will have a management color quality aligned with the current international standards.

Individual files will be placed in folders divided by section so that the jury can view them independently of each other and without knowing the names of the photographers. 

Art. 5) 

The 1st, 2nd and 3rd placement in each section of the competition will be rewarded.
Each competitor can win only one prize offered by the sponsors. In case of multiple winnings, the winner will receive only the most valuable prize.

NOTE: prizes could be awarded at the discretion of the Jury, regardless of category and subject, even to pictures qualified as "REPORTED" by the Regulation. 

Art. 6) 

During the award ceremony, the organization will show all the winning and reported photos, and all the images that, at the discretion of the jury, will highlight particular issues of interest in technical and emotional. The winning photos, the reported and the most representative ones, will be published on the official website www.ortonamare.org and on the Facebook page, once the official rankings will be made known.

Art. 7) 

The works will be admitted to the competition exclusively upon payment of the registration fee mentioned in Art. 3. 

AWARDS 

The award ceremony will take place on: 

November 30, 2019 at 4.00 pm, at: " Francesco Paolo Tosti Theater (Ex Vittoria) " – Corso Garibaldi 1 – Ortona  

Given that it is particularly welcome the presence of the authors at the awards ceremony, will be responsible for the organization to communicate to all the winners of the program of the event in detail. 

NOTE: unclaimed awards, for the absence of the winners or their delegate, will be sent by the Organization only with regard to the international award-winning resident abroad. For everyone else, by telephone arrangement, the organization can provide for shipment only with the formula mark the sole responsibility of the recipient.

RANKING

AWARDS 

Jackpot: Travel diving, underwater photography equipment and accessories, diving equipment, etc. 

NOTE 1: The mode of use of the prizes (Cruises - Stays - Full day - equipment - etc ..) and their peculiarities, are regulated directly by the Holders of the cooperation offered by ORTONA SUB for the administration of the Contest “SEA UW Photo Contest OrtonAmare 2016”. How many were previously interested in more details or particular information, will therefore need to make direct contact with providers partners premium

NOTE 2: The prizes are not cumulative. 

Prizes not collected and stored at the organization without being claimed, one month after the date of the awards ceremony, will enter automatically into the prize pool of the expected contribution of the following year. 

The organization reserves the right to send the prizes within the term of 60 days. from the award date.

COPYRIGHT AND GRANT OF USE IMAGES AND VIDEO

The organization, in accordance with established laws on copyright, considers the works presented in competition free from any artistic property rights or rights of others. Competitors, authorize the use of their work by the Organization for operations of promotion of the Competition, including through posters, brochures, calendars nonprofit and publications web. 

The images, released by the payment of royalties or by any other type of remuneration, will always be used with the requirement to mention the author's name. In any case, the organizers will still commercial use of these works and people, possibly interested in buying a work, will be put directly in touch with the author.

Contestants with the Competition, authorize the organization to the processing of data in order to get updates on the developments of this initiative, of course that the data will in no case be transmitted to third parties, in compliance with the provisions Law 196/2003 on the protection of personal data;

NOTE: The registration and participation in the competition implies the unconditional acceptance of this Regulation. The files and printouts of their respective categories, will not be returned and will become part of the archive at the exhibition. 

INFORMATION - Art. 13 of Decree Law 196 of 30/06/2003 

(Law on the protection of personal data) 

Under Article 13 of the above mentioned law, we inform you that ORTONA SUB personal data of sympathizers, collaborators, suppliers and persons who have voluntarily provided (personally a telephone, by fax, by email or by registering on the website www.ortonamare.org) their personal information to our distributors in order to receive information about our services and / or initiatives.

According to the law indicated (ref. Art. 2 - Purpose), ORTONA SUB ensures that the processing of personal data will be respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, and dignity, with particular reference to confidentiality, identity staff and the right to protection of personal data. 

Purposes of processing personal data: fulfill obligations related to the company and in particular for filling in personal data, internal statistics, invoicing, bookkeeping customer-suppliers, to meet the obligations provided by law , regulations, legislation, regulations and civil and tax. 

STANDINGS

The data collected by the employees regarding initiatives and anything else related to the activities of ORTONA SUB, will be kept at the end of the transmission of information and promotional material relating to the activities of ORTONA SUB itself (by post, fax, SMS and e-mail ). The data processing is done using paper and / or computer, on-line, also through automated tools to store, manage and transmit the data, with the observance of all safety measures which guarantee security and confidentiality. 

The personal data, if necessary, be communicated to all those whose right of access to such data is recognized by legislative measures. The data are stored at the headquarters of our company, for the time prescribed by civil and tax. The data controller is: ORTONA SUB - Ortona (CH). 

The provision of personal data by individuals who wish to open a relationship with our association, even if only for information about our activities / services, is considered optional, but failure to provide it could result in the interruption of the relationship, the its proper conduct and any legal obligations, including tax. Please also note that, in relation to this treatment, the interested parties, may at any moment exercise your rights under Art. 7 and art. 8, in the manner expressed by art. 9 of the Decree Law no. 196 of 30 June 2003, addressed directly to the data processing by mail, fax or email. 

I consent to the processing of personal data 

In relation to the request received, took note of the above, in particular, it noted the rights recognized in Art. 7 of Decree Law 196/2003 

  • You have the right to obtain confirmation of the existence of personal data , even if not yet registered, and their communication in intelligible form.

We pay our consent under Article 23 of Law Decree stated, to the processing of our personal data and their communication and dissemination, for the purposes and within the limits of the aforementioned statement.
